gender identity crisis

When I was little (about 7 or 8) my mom insisted that I get my hair cut like Dorothy Hamill (see picture). Granted, I did not have very good hair brushing habits, but my hair was long, straight and beauitful until the dreaded day came when it was all chopped off.

Such a haircut resulted in me playing a shepherd in my school's Christmas play. All my cute girlfriends were sweet angels in gorgeous white gowns and halos. Not me. Me and my Dorothy haircut was swaddled in cloth and holding a cane with all the other boys in my 2nd grade class.

Because of this story, I was very determined to not have Sophie's hair shaved, for fear that she will look like a boy and in return a gender identity crisis would occur. Afterall, she has a boy cousin, Max, whom I was convinced she would look like if her long hair was gone.

Trey wanted her cut short. He won the that argument, but not without a fight.
"it's summer! She is so hot with all that hair!" - Trey.

Whatev. She is a girl and should look like such.

SOOOOOO.....when I went to pick her up from PetSmart, I bought her a dress (unbeknownst to Trey).

I am satisfied...she looks like a girl again.

Quote of the day

If you are a faithful reader, you may have read my stories of talking to parents of incoming students. As a re-cap, I am the marketing manager for residence life so it is my job to talk to the parents during Preview (orientation) about housing....

well, we had another one today. When the summer is over I will have given my presentation over 20 times and answered an absurd amount of ridiculous questions.

Today, during my last of three sessions, I was explaining what all the cost of housing includes.

Here is the story:

Marketing Heather: "Cable is included in the cost of housing."

Father in the back: "When you say 'cable is included' do you mean cable?"

MH: what????? dumb. "Yes, sir, cable is included in the cost of housing" what am I? A broken record?

FITB: "But cable is included?"

MH: is this guy kidding? "Yes sir, your student just has to bring his or her own TV, but the room is cable ready."

FITB:
"So they can get cable in their rooms?"

MH: seriously, dude. You are about to piss me off. "Sir, I am going to have to move on, but if I did not answer your question, I will be happy to speak to you afterwards."

Cute little Asian father, somewhat screaming: "Do they get HBO, too???"

hahaha. i love my job.

enter the "blue period"

After watching "Mary's Super Sweet Sixteen Party" (see below) and hearing her love for the this particular color, I came to the realization that my blog was rather....ummmm....pink.

I know I seem to have a little bit of a blog banner commitment problem, but I made a new header with a little less pink.

Maybe I will stick to it for a while. Then again, probably not. My ADD will undoubtly shine onto my blog banner soon.

sshhh....sleepy time for Sophie

Sophie can not jump on the bed (or couch, chair, etc...she is somewhat a wuss) on her own. She sits at the bottom of the place she wishes to be and whines. Anyway, last night she did this to our bed. So, I put her up there while I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth and getting ready to go to sleep and Trey was in the living room reading before bed. We walked into our room to find our precious "daughter" snuggled in our covers like this.

Under the covers, head on a pillow, sleeping on her side.
When we tried to move her so we could get in
bed, she glared at us and growled under her breath.

SPOILED MUCH???

June 26, 2007

Stop it. Stop it now.

Oh my.

Adelia, my sweet cousin, informed me that Hattiesburg was famous! Yes, friends, my current hometown set the scene for Mary's Sweet Sixteen Party. Who's Mary, you ask? Glad you did.

She is, for lack of better words, Barbie gone southern. She was on MTV's My Super Sweet Sixteen. Unfortunately, Trey and I do not get MTV (we don't even get cable, work with me here). But alas, thanks to this ultra-hightech society that we all live in these days I was able to view the show online.

I am so proud to live in the Hub-City.

You, too, can get a peak into Mary's party by clicking HERE.

Geez.

Please, if you do so choose, click on "Pink Pursuit". Yes, fellow readers, those are Hattiesburg men trying out to be Ken at her birthday bash.

The bad part?
Some of them are Trey's friends.

I am ashamed. Turn away.

Well, once you continue down the show to "Viva Las Vegas" you will see that TREY'S FRIEND was the special gentleman chosen as Mary's escort.

Again, humiliated. Turn away. And just think, I saw him yesterday and he said nothing of his newly-found fame.

Apparently, no one involved in the party could speak of it until after the show aired. WELL...don't for one minute think that now that the cat's out of the bag, so to speak, that I am not going to march over to Trey's friend's office (who shall remain nameless) and get his autograph. Yes, office, he works here with us. If he thought for one minute that he could be on MTV's Super Sweet Sixteen and not get made fun of, he was sadly mistaken. Trey and I are already having way too much fun with this.

Oh how I can not wait to see him...

Pool time with Henry Thomas!

I got to see my precious nephew this weekend. This boy loves the water! We took him to the pool on Saturday. He had the best time. I took more than a few pictures, but decided that you probably did not want to see step by step of him getting dressed, getting in the pool, swimming, getting out of the pool, etcetera, etcetera, so I settled on a few.

Enjoy! I LOVE HIM!

Rosie, just don't.

I heard on the Today Show that Rosie might be the replacement for dear ole' Bob on the Price is Right.

Please, Rosie, for the sake of America and all of those precious retiree's who dream of winning a treadmill or new car on the show, just don't do it.

The Price is WRONG, Rosie, the price is wrong.

a blog-worthy lunch break

I believe that blog-worthy stories happen often in my life. Today's lunch break was no different. On several occasions during the lunch hour i thought to myself "I must blog about this." Dorky? Perhaps. But I care not. I laughed out loud on a number of incidences in this one hour.

I shall set the scene:

Trey and I both work for the university, and one of the many perks of working here is that we are each given a meal allowance on our ID to use on campus. There are many options of food on campus...sushi, Starbucks,Quiznos, chick-fil-a, The PowerHouse, and of course, the school cafeteria. Now, it is not often that I will recomend us eating at the cafeteria. Not because they have bad food...usually the food is pretty good...but because I am a brat and try to avoid cafeteria food (and buffets) at all costs. Well, we are in desperate need of a grocery trip at home and the school is remodeling several eating places on campus this summer, Trey was not feeling the sushi place, thus leaving us with the cafeteria. Either that or starve. I enjoy the salad bar at the cafeteria, so it's cool. Plus, it's free. Come on...you can't beat that.

Anyway, distracted from the point.

We walk into the cafeteria at noon to discover that is it PACKED full of the following group of people:

1) Cheerleader camp
2) Soccer Camp
3) Softball Camp
4) Band / flag Camp

and
5) Nuns
Yes, nuns. In full nun-attire. Not too sure. I don't ask.

So immediately Trey and I found ourselves in between 13 year old girls in cheerleader uniform, 15 year-old stinky boys talking about band camp, and nuns. huh. One ironic scene was a young cheerleader with colored fishnet stockings on, mulit-colored hair pieces in (new squad look, perhaps?) and a little-bitty top on standing next to a nun. I wonder what that nun was thinking.
Trey and I finally got our seats (next to a soccer camp, i believe) Trey gets up to get more drink at which point a group of pre-teen cheerleaders wave and smirk at him and then walk off, all giggling. I am sure Trey was both flattered and a little freaked out all at the same time.
I laughed.

Trey then decides he wants to go get some ice cream...from the self-served ice cream machine. He was in line behind three boys, probably 13 or 14, VERY awkward and somewhat smelly. All boys were in competition with each other to see how big they could make there ice cream cone. Trey was getting SO frustrated because they kept laughing and spilling ice cream everywhere.

He finally got his ice cream and we decided to leave the cafeteria and go to Barnes and Nobles, since we still had thirty minutes left on our lunch break. Well, inside we noticed that this was a very popular place for the campers (and nuns) to be after lunch. THEY WERE EVERYWHERE. (and practicing cheer routines, which would have made Laura throw up) Anyway, I can see my story is getting lengthy. Thanks for those who are still reading.

I see a book on sale ($6.99 from $25.00...what a steal!) that I decided I needed. So I found Trey and told him that I was going to buy it. His response? (very loudly, I will add, and in front of highly giggly pre-teen and teenage girls)

"I will never say no to a book. Buy the book. Buy two books. I will never say no to reading."

Uh...thanks? Wasn't asking for permission really.

He was serious. He said this in a very dorky-fatherly way. The cheerleaders laughed and I knew without a doubt that Trey and I were immediately labeled nerds.

So much for the hopes of still being cool.

In the checkout line with my book in hand (because, afterall, Trey will never say no to a book. DORK) I noticed a magazine with Nicole Ritchie's picture on the front cover with accusations that she is pregnant because of a bump. BUMP? WHAT BUMP? I think it is time that we all re-examine what a pregnant woman should look like. I assure you...Nicole Ritchie is not it. If that's a baby bump, then ladies, we are all in trouble. I immediately looked down at my "post-cafeteria-lunch-bump" and sighed in relief that paparazzi was not taking pictures of my no-baby-bump, but bump none-the-less, belly. By their standards, I would be labeled at least 5 months pregnant.

So that was my lunch break.
Moral of story: Tomorrow I am going home to eat
.

Sweet family

My cousin, Adelia, just sent me these pictures. I have tried ( very unsuccessfully) to get her to create a blog, but since she hasn't thus far, I will share these precious pictures.

My sweet grandmother, Mamaw, lives in a nursing home in Meridian. She has been there now for a few months. This was a very difficult decision for my mom and our entire family, but God opened his arms and showed us this home for her. It has been tough not having her at her home, but she is happy and feels safe now and we can all rest soundly knowing that someone is there looking after her.

Anyway, my cousin's child (adelia's older brother's youngest...with me? Our family gets bigger and bigger, just stay focused) went to see her this past weekend. Adelia said that they laughed and played like two small children. These pictures are just so precious. I got teary-eyed in my office just looking at them!

I love the mischief in Cooper's eyes...there is no telling what he is saying to Mamaw, our as the great-grandkids call her, "B". Mamaw has 9 grandkids, one which has past away, and 7 great-grandkids. This is not even counting the grandchildren-in-laws! She is a very special lady and I love her so very much!

Anna on YouTube

Saw this on Butts' blog. Had to share it. The girl in the pigtails is a sweet friend, former KD with me, and a former Miss MSU. She bleeds maroon and white. My favorite part is that she disses Ole Miss for sucking. Haha. Even though we lost, at least we made it to Omaha!

"The dawgs may disslike Oxford, but they love Omaha."
Enjoy.

sweet ivy kate

I was so happy to see Ashley and Ivy Kate last saturday. (and john and wilson, of course!) Sophie and I had a great visit. I love that little Ivy Kate. I stupidly forgot my camera, so I am stealing this one from Ashley.

I was talking to Ivy Kate while I was holding her. This is how the conversation went down:

"Ivy Kate, you are just the most beautiful little thing ever. I have the perfect boyfriend for you! His name is Henry and he is kinda fat, short, and is going bald. Doesn't that sound perfect?"

At this point Ivy Kate's bottom lip started quivering and she began to cry.

Ashley and I started laughing. Bless my sweet nephew's heart. He was rejected by a 1 month little princess!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, MOMMY & DADDY!

Today my wonderful parents are in Highlands, North Carolina celebrating 31 years of marriage. I am so grateful and blessed to have such loving parents who not only love their children, but love each other! That may be a simple thing to say, but these days it is becoming more and more uncommon to see people who are as in love with each other as my parents are after being married for so many years. I promise you, growing up I never once heard a voice raised or a mean word said from either parent. They are special people. I always knew growing up watching my parents love each other through thick and thin that their love was the kind that I longed for in my own marriage. Melita and Tommy are a true example of a Godly marriage...one that I am so proud to call my parents.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
I love you both so much!

The obsessed grandparents!

I love my daddy

Hope all you father's out there had a wonderful father's day.

I haven't felt too well for the past couple of days, so my writing is not going to be up to par. Honestly, even on my best days I do not think that I could write enough about my daddy to fully express how amazing he is!

Laura did a pretty good job yesterday expressing how special our daddy is. I would recommend going to read her blog. It made me cry.

My dad is one of those people who always looks on the positive side of things. He has always been there for me and my two sisters no matter what, and let me tell you, being the only male in the house with three teenage girls was no easy feat, I am sure. And the love that he shows for my mom....and always has....really made me realize at a young age what love is and what it is I wanted in a husband one day. I am lucky to have found a man that loves as much as my daddy.

Last year my dad lost his daddy, my dada, to alzhymers. For three years my dad put everything on hold to care for him. My Nana, uncle, and daddy never complained, was never angered, and never once felt sorry for themselves. They simply cared for my dada the best way they knew how, and although my Dada couldn't express his graditude, it was obvious by just looking at his face he knew they were his sons. Growing up just two minutes away from my Nana and Dada allowed me to see first hand the impact father's have on their family. My family is so blessed to have the men in our lives be such strong Christians, role-models, and fathers.

I doubt I will ever be able to express to my daddy what all he means to me.

I can't mention father's without mentioning my father-in-law, Ronnie. He came into Trey's life when Trey was was about 8 years old and from that moment on, Trey has been shown nothing but love from him. Trey adores Ronnie. I am so thankful for Ronnie . For being the strong male role-model in Trey's life and for loving him unconditionaly.

How blessed we are to have such strong, wonderful men in our lives!

Ok, I am heading back to bed. Feeling sick again.

June 16, 2007

It's me, Henry.

Hey! This is Henry Thomas (Heather and Laura's nephew).

I wanted everyone to know how wonderful my daddy is, so I made him a Father's day gift. I ordered a DVD that I made for him, but, it has not come in yet. I needed help. Afterall, I am only 6 months old. But don't worry, Daddy, it is coming!

I wanted to make sure that my Daddy was able to see something on Father's Day, so I asked my Aunt Heather (who, by the way, is SO fabulous. I love that girl!) to post a slideshow on this thing called a blog. My mama doesn't have a blog because she is a doctor and is very busy (and not very computer savy, but don't tell her I said that) so Aunt Heather let me use her's.

Anyway, DADDY, this is just for YOU!
You are THE BEST and I am SO THANKFUL for you. I couldn't be more blessed! You are a WONDERFUL daddy!

Enjoy the show...be looking for a DVD starring you and me!

I love you, Henry Thomas

(ps. I am really smart. My mommy's a doctor, what did you expect?)

*DISCLAIMER: the show is now offline - Aunt Heather couldn't take the music anymore.*

Get your game face on.

Tonight, at 6 p.m., the bulldogs will play in the first round of the NCAA world series in Omaha. I have printed off a bracket (which can be found here) and taped it to my office door, as well as posted it on my office bulletin board. I want everyone to know that while it is true that I am currently working for a different school, I still bleed maroon and white. Maroon blood runs deep, I tell ya.

So get your cowbells out and put your party pants on, because tonight, my friends, the MSU bulldogs will take on North Carolina in Omaha in game that is sure to be one step closer to sweet victory for the bulldogs in their quest for a national championship.

I am about to head out for the coast to give sweet Ivy Kate some kisses and then pick up the husband from the airport. His mom and dad are boiling shrimp for us tonight, and boiled shrimp waits for no one. Peace out.

Sophie, the tazmanian devil

First of all, thanks for the over-whelming concern for my decrepted finger. First plan of action: get the ring cleaned. I thought I was pretty good at this, but MK segrest told me she gets her ring cleaned once a month. I do not do that. Just call me a nasty girl, I suppose. I shall try to keep up with MK and do this at least once a month.

Secondly, you are might be wondering why I am refering to our precious 7 lb malte-poo, Sophie, as a tazmanian devil in the title. Well, it is because she turned into one after her bath last night. After her weekly cleaning around 8 pm yesterday, she immediately transformed into this wild creature. I think she was acting out since her father has been out of town lately. I decided since I was there alone, laughing at her, that I would get out my camera and video it to share it will all of you, as I am sure you care tremendously. Make sure the volume is up.

last subject of note: we have a celebrity in the family. My cousin's youngest child was featured on the front page on the Meridian Star. Check out this cutie.

Look out, David Beckham, Cooper Luke is on the rise.

Beckham's got nothing on this kid

Memo to Mothers: No need for babysiter, just get a dog!

So cute.
The dog is fully aware of what this baby is doing, keeping her from harms way. PLUS, the mommy and daddy can save the money they would normally spend on a sitter for a night out on the town. It's really a win-win situation here. So, whenever the day comes for Trey and I to venture into never-never land known as parenthood, we can rest easy knowing that our little Sophie can accept the role as a live-in babysitter. Oh the money we will save!

On another note: Trey left AGAIN for work. This time only for two nights. He flew out this morning bright and early for North Carolina to speak at some conference. My husband is in high demand, I tell you. I am driving to the coast tomorrow after work to meet him at the airport. We are going to stay with his parents down there for a night to celebrate father's day.

TREY, Sophie really misses you. She cried after you left. She always hides in the red bowl under the dinning room table. I found this note that she wrote last night after you left:

Dear Daddy,
Why you leave all the time? I have to say, it kinda sucks. But don't worry, I am taking good care of mommy. She lets me sleep in the bed with her. I licked her face this morning at 4:30 just to let her know that I was there. She feels safe with me next to her.
Come home soon! BRING ME BACK A TREAT!

Love,
Sophie

PS - The construction people next door are really stupid, but don't worry, daddy, I barked at them. Mommy was calling me to come inside (she looked funny because she had just gotten out of the shower so her hair was in a towel!) but I stayed with the construction people to make sure they knew I was boss. MOMMY IS SAFE WITH ME!

Anyway, I have another preview session this afternoon, so I will let you know if any absurd comments are made by hellicopter parents.

Lastly, I need help! Perhaps I am allergic to my wedding band? I don't know. I told Trey maybe it was marriage I was allergic to, but I am not sure he found the humor.
I have had the rings for two years with no problems, now all of the sudden I am breaking out in the horrific rash. It itches, sometimes I scratch it so hard it bleeds. I rather not go to the dermatologists just to have them say "yeah, it's a rash". No kidding, sherlock. So, has this happened to anyone? It is really annoying. I have including a picture for better understanding.

Three cheers for the fact that tomorrow is friday!

brain fog

I should be working. I am actually in the middle of writing a very important proposal. Yet, I am two lines deep and having a brain fog.

So, I decided it was time to blog.

Laura just sent me a few more pictures of guess who, Henry Thomas. Enjoy.

He is so chunky.

Anyway, update on crazy parents of college-bound students:
yesterday's presentations went well. (plural, I do 3-4 each preview). I do not get nervous talking in front of people, in fact, I get loud, so nerves is never an issue with me and public speaking, the issue is always over-protective parents. Let 'em go mom and pops - they are in college. But I can't exactly say that, so I am forced to continue to do my job the best way I know how.

Here are a few questions I was asked:

1."My son is really wild. Like really. I am scared if he lives on campus he will get a DUI, so I think he should live at home. What should I do?"

hmmmmm.....

2."My daughter made the dance team. Can I pick up her boots today?"

not the dance team advisor, I am the marketing manager for res life. Bore someone else with your questions....

3."How long does it take to get there?"

What? to get where? and from where? I don't understand.

4."Is there a curfew for residents?"
answer: "No"
"Well, is there anyway a staff member can make sure my daughter is in her room at a decent hour?"

absolutely not, unless you pay me extra to babysit your 19 year old angel.

Last, but not least:

5."I can not believe you all are allowing the kids to register for classes with out us. Can I leave to go make sure my son signs up for the right classes?"

sure, lady. Will you be taking the class with him as well?

I love my job. Really, I do. Working for a university is fabulous, but some parents should have never been allowed to have children in the first place.

Ok, maybe all this non-sense writing has triggered some ingenious thoughts that I can now transfer onto this proposal writing.

until the next time I get stumped.....

dumb.

Me, that is. Dumb.

Remember me saying that I was going to try to be better at remember birthdays? Well, I am not better. In fact, it is safe to say that I suck.

I MISSED MY DEAR FRIEND ASHLEY'S BIRTHDAY.

Ashley, accept my apology, and this poem:

Ashley, belated birthday wishes are for not fun at all
but I messed up on your big day, I really missed the ball
I hope you had fun, ate cake and stuff
I am trying to say I am sorry, but this poem is not enough
I will throw you a party soon ( yeah probably not)
but know that i feel really stupid that I forgot
So here's to you, my sweet mommie friend
You are the BESTEST and I'll love you till the end

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!
I LOVE YOU!

ASHLEY, pre-party

ASHLEY, post-party

June 12, 2007

hello, all.

Good morning, fellow readers. Hope all 5 of you are doing fabulous.

My apologies for the lack of interesting postings lately. Work is somewhat crazy. Today is the first of many summer Previews, which basically is orientation for incoming freshman and their parents. I, being the marketing person that I am, will be presenting a power point presentation to the parents this afternoon, convincing them that living on campus is pratically the best.

Wish me luck.

Last time I did this I was hounded by an overly-eager father who accused me of not responding to emails. What? His accusations were made while I was in front of a huge crowd, in the middle of my presentation, WHILE BEING VIDEOED for the top dogs to review. I was caught off guard as he told me that not responding to emails is the number one bad marketing plan. As it turns out he was sending them to the front office (which I made VERY clear to the little ladies down there to ANSWER EMAILS), but still I got no apology, only embarassment in front of a crowd.

Rude people.

Maybe today eager-beaver fathers (and mothers) will keep their mouths shut.

Anyway, so my work has been on overload for the past, oh, few days.

Trey returned from Boca Raton Sunday morning absolutely worn out. Sophie was so excited to see him her whole butt was wagging with delight. She would not stop kissing him. Luckily, Sophie was worn out as well from playing hard with Max for a few days, so the two of them had no problem crawling in bed for a Sunday nap.

Laura and I had a great time hanging out while the hubby was out on business. A few highlights of the visit include:

1) Mexican
2) Sushi (hmmm...do you notice a food theme going on here?)
3) The Holiday. Great movie, highly recommended.
4) Seeing our sweet nephew.

I am trying to convince her that she should make the move to the 'burg, but so far I have been unconvincing.

We went to Jackson on Sat. to see Kristen (the eldest of the Tomlinson girls) and her husband, Rob, and little Henry. He (Henry, not Rob) is starting to teeth a little, so the drool was in abundance and he was running a little fever, but still did not cry. He is a fighter, I tell ya.

Do you want to kiss him? He is oh so kissable.

"mmmm....what is this? FOOD? Let me at it, I am starving"

On a different note, I am really excited about the fact that I am not this lady, who gave birth to six...count them...SIX babies last night :

You can watch the video on The Today Show website by clicking HERE.
She will have extra jewels on her crown one day.

June 9, 2007

Nobody does it better.

By "it", I mean "baseball", and I am refering to the MSU bulldogs.

The bully's are heading to Omaha for the World Series after a huge win over Clemson witnessed by a record-breaking crowd.

I want to go to Omaha, too.

Trey, can we go?

Another thing, does anyone else think that Coach Ron Polk actually looks like a bulldog? Weird.

June 8, 2007

Maroon, White, FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

I am so sad that I am not in Starkville at this very moment. At 11:00 the bulldogs will play Clemson in the Super Regionals hosted by State.

I would sit in Left Field and eat chicken on a stick while watching the greatest sport played on the greatest field ever...Dudy Noble.

My mom and Daddy took off work today to attend all the festivities. Jealousy has set in. But I am reminded that I am having sushi tonight with Laura and then going to see sweet Henry tomorrow, and that, my friends, makes all things better. I plan on eating way to much edamame (pratically my favorite) and making friends with the japaneese waitress. A perfect setting for a friday night. One sushi roll, if created correctly, will always lead to another. So I plan on eating more than one.

Trey doesn't too much care for baseball. I know, so un-American-ish. I told him when we were dating to not mention such horror in the presence of my father, cousin, grandfather, or brother-in-law, for he might be repremanded, as they all played some sort of ball, be it college or professional. Trey came with me to watch a MSU game when we were dating. I was working the game (I was a Diamond Girl back in the day) so Trey was forced to sit with my parents, who happen to take the game very seriously. He smiled and cheered because, well, it was the beginning of our dating and he was trying to impress. But now that he is in the family he has made it known that the game is just boring to him. ~sigh~

I always talk about our unborn son and his extreme baseball skills. Trey is quick to remind me that we might have a son that hates baseball and only wants to play the trumpet. Now, that would be fine and I would love him with my whole heart, but I will still sign him up for t-ball in hopes that the sound of the metal hitting the ball will stay with him and he will dream of running the bases at night.

Hmmm....is it wrong that I plan my unborn child's activities?

He will be a super star.

My Dada struck out Joe Dimaggio. When he was sick (Dada, not Joe) and wasn't talking much at all, we would look at a big baseball book together and I would read about players from when he played. I would point at Joe Dimaggio's picture and say "Did you strike this guy out, dada?" and he would look at it hard and then look at me and with all his might say "with a curve ball."

How great is that?

Anyway, all this to say, GO BULLDOGS, beat Clemson and if you have the chance this weekend, go to a baseball game.

Heather, the jail-keeper

In light of recent news, I would like to take the time to comment on the release of Paris from the LA jail. I think she is a snooty little brat who has to have her way (sorry, Amanda) but I have told you all this once before, so I digress...

I thought about this today as I was running an errand at Office Depot (picking up paper for work, if you want to know) and waiting in line at Seattle Drip (mmmm...I had a gift card from a girl in my Sunday School class. Again, more than you wanted to know).

I thought about what I would do if I were the security gaurd for Paris's cell, which would be dark and dingy and would smell like rotten eggs with a dash of burnt popcorn and dead roses.

I imagined a conversation between the two of us would go something like this. (side note: I would of course be so hott, so she would have high hopes in being my friend, but being the kind of jail-keeper that I am, I would not fall into that Lohan-Hilton trap.)

Paris: "Hey Heath, why don't you let me out. I mean, I didn't do anything and this room is so not hott. "

Jail-keeper Heather: "Hey Paris, why don't you shut up and come rub my feet."

Paris: "Heath, why you be so mean. You are so hott and you could totally come join me on Simple Life. We should totally become BFF."

At this point I would throw her in her cell and not come back. She thinks she is so cool, but she is not. Plus, I think I would intimidate her. I am, afterall, pretty intimidating...

Thanks for letting me vent.

On another jail-bird note: I wish I were like Martha Stewart. I don't so much want to look like her (her hair doesn't move) or talk like her (kinda annoying) but she does do some cute things and I can imagine her Christmas dinners are to die for. I would be the talk of the street. People would refer to me as "the girl who can cook a mean meal" or "the girl who can do it all". It would be nice.

I almost bought Martha Stewart Living today at Office Depot, but I was using my work's credit card and I don't think I could justify the magazine for marketing residence life through creating a homemade summer wreath.

Such is the life, I suppose...

sweet boy.

Just look at this cute thing hanging out at the river. Is he not the sweetest little boy in all the world? (yes, I am a little biased) I miss him and I am sure he misses his Aunt Heather as well!!!
See you soon, Henry Thomas!

new look...

the blog, not me, although I am in dire need of a haircut.

I played around with photoshop last night and came up with this border...thoughts? comments?
I am a nerd, I know this, but I enjoy the small things in life, such as photoshop and color, so humor me.

Also, a few things worth mentioning:

1) Trey leaves tonight for Boca Raton for work. I gotta say, we may work for the state and may never be millionares, but the perks of our jobs are amazing. In the next few months I will be traveling to Brekenridge and St. Louis. You can't beat an all-paid-for-kinda-work-kinda-play trip! The only wish I have is that Trey and I could travel together. I want to go to Boca Raton, too! (in the words of Trey, "To do what??? Play bingo with the retirees?") How judgemental.

2) Trey went to Home Depot last night. I come to the realization that when Trey says he is going to "look around" or "price a few things" at the Home Depot, he is coming home with at least one purchase. Well, last night it was two.
He pulled up with two Red Maple trees in the back of his truck. So...we planted two trees in our front yard. We are excited about coming back in ten and seeing the beautiful leaves on the trees that we planted.

3) Laura comes to see me tomorrow!!! YAY! Since she doesn't work in the summers (boo on her) she is coming to babysit me while Trey is gone! Sophie and Max have the best time playing with each other, so Soph and I are thrilled to have company.

4) I never gave a report on Sophie's first stay away from family. In the words of the "camp counselor" (as I like to call them) "Sophie didn't play with the other puppies during play time. She liked to be by herself." HAHA! We are raising a snob.

Love is in the air!

My dear friend that I work with got engaged this weekend to her sweet BF, Adam. I am so happy for them both! Her ring is gorgeous ( good job, Adam) and the engagement story was so precious. Yay for sweet couples!

I am so happy for you, AMY!

After the proposal! Look at those smiles!

trying

trying to be creative and make my blog super cool.

Not so much working...so it looks funky right now. oops.

Damien rocks.

Where are my eyes? lost in the cheeks, apparently!

We had the best anniversary ever! (I know, I have no other anniversary to compare it to, but this one was fabulous!)
Memphis was perfect. The food was great, the hotel was perfect, and Damien was incredible. I suggest to you, once again, that you listen to Damien Rice if you do not already. So mellow, so great.
We started out on Beale before the concert in the Orpheum. We had a great time. At our first stop, Pat O's, this nice lady commented on my extreme southern accent. (WHAT? well, maybe)Anyway, I proceed to tell her my life story, because, let's face it, I do not meet a stranger. I tell her how I am from Mississippi and we were celebrating our 1 year and how when we were first dating Trey lived in Atlanta. That caught her attention: she lived in Atlanta. So I felt the need to tell her what he did: youth minister in Conyers. GET THIS: She goes to the same church! She looked at him funny and said "Trey?? your name is Trey, right??". So of course we stayed and talked to this precious lady and her husband on Beale about the church and the youth group. It was perfect.

Next stop, Silky's. The nice little waitress girl asked if we had ever been there (i think because I was taking pictures of the goats that they keep out back...extremly touristy, but WHY do they keep goats at a bar?). So, again, I proceed to tell her about us and how Silky's was a special place to me and how we were on our anniversary trip. She looks at Trey funny and said "Trey??? Like from the Happening? The guitar player"
One of the goats at Silky's.

Yes, my husband is welll known around these parts for being involved in the church and the Happening (a high school methodist retreat) and playing the guitar. I love it. Of course as we were walking to the concert he tells me that I am so lucky to be married to such a famous person.

pa-lease.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from the trip! We thought it was funny (ok, I thought it was funny) how on the honeymoon it was hard to get a picture of both of us, so we have a lot of us by ourselves, so we re-inacted. (ok, I made him do it)

Also, comparing these pictures to our wedding and honeymoon pictures makes it certain that I must start my post-first year of marriage-diet PRONTO.

HAHA. I am a poser. Big Time.

Sexy? Mysterious? Mad? Embarassed? Annoyed? You decide.

Little dark, but I love him.
