update

I realize a few things after reading my last post:

A) I can NOT spell (thanks for pointing that out, MSKS)

B) Those you stumble accross this blog probably view me as a materialistic brat...I am only sort of these things. I really am a thankful, down-to-earth girl in real life (no need to comment on that, laura)

C) I really am thankful that I have 1) Shoes and 2) a phone, among other things

D) I am so ready for 5:00 p.m.

Razr, krazr...what's it all about?

Today at approximately 11:30, I recieved a phone call from my cousin, Monica. She was in Hattiesburg and wanted to meet for lunch. Oh fun! I love surprises, and while this trip to the burg was made because of a shopping need that she encountered, not to surprise me, it did non-the-less.

So I met Monica and my Aunt Judy at Newks for lunch. Newks favorite salad. Always a good choice. The craisins are a fabulous addition to the traditional salad.

Anyway, while sitting in the booth, I pulled out my phone to check the time.

That is when it happened.

My phone was the subject of deep ridicule. The site of the antenna being pulled from the large, retangular shaped cellular device was enough to have my cousin and aunt in laughter.

Yes, I undoubtly own one of the first ever Nokias.

You must know that this was not my decision. Again, since Trey knows not the password to this blog, I will tell only my side of the story:

After Trey and I were married, we decided it was time for me to be a big girl and get off my parent's cell phone bill (You are welcome, Mommy and Daddy)

So off to Cellular South on Hardy Street do we go. Now, DID need a new phone all together, so I recycled the old one and marched on in to purchase my "new and improved" phone, via the "family plan".

Apparently Trey was not so much thinking "new and improved"

He did all the paper work and added my name to his phone bill while I scoped out all the cool new phones.

"Wow. Red my favorite color! I can get one with music, video, camera and WEB!"

huh. wishful thinking.

I must explain myself here: I do know deep down that it does not matter what a phone looks like or all the features one may posess, as long as it works it shouldn't matter if it is considered "cool" or not.

But on the surface: I want a cool phone.

Back to the story:

So we get to the counter, me with my new cool phone in hand, Trey with the "free phone with contract" in his.

The cellular south lady asked which one we wanted. I said "the cool phone" and she went to get me the coolest they had in a box. When she returns, Trey responded : "It's ok, we are not 'cool phone people'. we will take the free one. "

What???? I AM A COOL PHONE PERSON.
at least I was before the wedding.
Now, not so much.
Point is: THANKYOU monica, for bringing up my very un-cool phone

True Story

I have been waiting for the right time to publish this post. Work has been busy, leaving little time in my blogging world, however, at the present time I have all my work due this week sent to the printer or proofreader. This story must be told now.

As I mentioned yesterday, Trey and I attended a wedding last weekend. A wedding. A dressy occasion. Before I continue, I must tell you that I don't ask for much. I ask to be fed and loved. That is all really. Never wanting. Pretty low-maintenance on nearly all scales.

Well, the Saturday morn of the wedding I was in great need of shoes. Just SOMETHING to cover my poor little feet. Again, I don't ask for much. If corn cloth was available, I would have made my own.

So I asked my lovely husband if it would be ok if I go to PAYLESS (not Fetish, a super cute shoe store here...PAYLESS. work with me, people) and see if they have some shoes to match my dress that I plan on wearing to the wedding.

Now I must interupt the story here to say that I do not have to have permission from Trey to buy items, it just so happens that March has been a, ummmm, tight month with our daughter's high medical bills and all. So, I thought it was polite to ask his opinion of the matter first.

role play:

Princess Wife: "Honey, I know you provide for this family, and I need not a thing, however, if you will it possible, could I splurdge on a $10, possibly $15, pair of shoes from our local Payless shoe store?"

Husband: "Heather. You have 100 pairs of shoes. Wear flip-flops to the wedding. It is hot. besides you do not need them. We are on a need only basis right now"

Princess Wife: "Ok, sweetie. I understand. How foolish of me to think that I needed shoes"

Fast-forward to Monday night:

Husband: "I am going to Sears."

PW (Princess Wife): "For what?"

Husband: "I am going to buy a lawn mower."

PW: "Oh, but, honey. Can't it wait until next month, afterall, my $10 shoes was out of the quesion."

Husband: "The lawn mower is not for me. It's for Sophie."

No really, true story. I took pictures, much to Trey's dissaproval, for this purpose.
A lawn mower was bought, according to Trey, so that snakes don't bite Sophie while she is poo-pooing outside.
A dog won over me???? We'll see about that.

I am going to Fetish on April 1.

DISCLAIMER: Some parts of the story were, in fact, exagerated to better suite my side of the story, but all major plots in the tale are very much alive and true.

Nice day for a white wedding.

This weekend Trey's cousin, Anna, was married in Gulport. It was so beautiful! The weather was perfect and of course she looked fabulous. I am sad that I do not have a picture of the bride, but here are the two pictures that I did take this weekend.

The reception was at the beautiful magnolia hotel in Gulfport. Peacocks walked around the whole time. I really liked the peacocks.

A story of a girl

It began 26 years ago today, on a sunny yet brezzy morn. March 23, 1981, my friends. A day that will go down in history.

That was the day the world met Laura Ladell Tomlinson.

And so the story begins....

Tommy and Melita Tomlinson and their oldest daughter Kristen, at the ripe age of 2, anxiously await the arrival of their newest boundle of joy. They will call her LAURA LADELL. It was an exciting time in the Tomlinson household as this child was early, but being the mother that she was, and still is today, Melita was prepared.

No fear.
Laura arrived. She was a cute little thing. Kristen soon found out that she was able to boss around this new addition.
The first two years of Laura's life went by seemingly eventless. A few poo-poos here and there and a few play dates with her friend Mary Straton, but it wasn't until 2 years later that her life really kicked it up a notch.

See, it was then that Laura recieved the greatest gift...a baby sister. And what a joy this little sister was. Cute thing, no doubt.

But, alas, this story is about Laura.

See, Laura was always a curious child, like that time she decided to play in a "sand" pile, also known as a fire ant bed, and was rushed to the ER resulting in the beautiful holes still present in her legs today.

Laura was also the "good child", if you will. She never liked to be in trouble. In the first grade her stomach often hurt due to stress of trying to be angel.

Laura grew up quickly. In junior high she struggled with her hair. Let's me just be straight forward with you: it was frizzy. You must know that Laura has curly hair. However, at the age of 13 she fought this by blowdrying it daily, resulting in a massive mop on top of her head.

But she quickly learned the ways of being a curly-haired woman. And that, along with the discovery of tweezers and make-up, lead to the coming out of a beautiful young woman. And Miss Starkville Academy 1999 was crowned. Shining moment in the Tomlinson home.

Laura grew and grea and soon so she finds her way to MSU. A KD at State, Laura was often seen drinking Dr. Pepper and eating blow-pops as a freshman. Time went on and Laura one day decided to go for a run. And she ran. And ran. And kept running. By the time her first run had come to an end, she was a as thin as a rail and fit as ever. She traited her DP for Diet Coke and her blow-pops for Granny Smith apples.

A new woman was born.

Laura soon finished her degree at the great university of Mississippi State and began her career as a school teacher. You must understand: some people are born doctors, criminals, mothers, etc... Laura was born a teacher.

Parents from accross the county heard this news and quickly sent their children to Suddeth Elementary in hopes that Miss T. would be the life-changing angel for their child.

And she is.

That brings us up to date. Today Miss T. can be found running down University, watching Desperate Housewives and drinking wine with her girlfriends, enjoying a buritto at Mexico Tipico, talking to Max, and taking pictures of her nephew.

This story doesn't end here, this is only the beginning. You see, today is Laura's birthday, the day of her birth, the celebration of her life. And it is a day like today that we turn our heads to the north and say:

"Happy Birthday to you, Laura. May your hair continue to curl and your legs continue to run. May your days be brightened by by the sun that hits your back and the wine that touches your lips. It is your day, and we pause to say: Happy Birthday to you."

THE END! LOVE YOU!

We'll yell like H-E-L-L

I am with MSKS on this one:

Growing up in the Tomlinson household words such as "shutup", "hell", "butt" and "do-do" were big no-no's, so you can imagine my excitement in screaming the MSU fightsong's line
"FOR DEAR OLE' STATE WE'LL YELL
LIKE H-E-L-L!"
Not exactly saying it, but spelling it, none-the-less.

When I was just a young tot (in my MSU cheerleading outfit, no doubt) at sporting events, I would become silent when that line came up. But soon, I joined in and my parents said nothing.
Rebel I was.
Anyway, point is : GO DAWGS!

Our boys are heading to NYC this weekend after beating FSU last night at the Hump. Love it.

This will be State's first-ever NIT semifinal, which will be held next Tuesday, March 27, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Trey, can we go, please?

Only the curious have something to find

#1) Sophie is staple and stich free!!! YAY!

#2) I stumbled accross this while reading the news this morning. Let me just go ahead and get it out there that there is nothing I would rather NOT do that what this article speaks of. No, seriously. I feel the need to share the cause of my massive headache. Read here, if you dare.

sick.
i will never speak of it again.

#3) I want to go play outside. Way too pretty. My office has two HUGE windows in it. Pretty much floor to ceiling. I find myself looking outside and humming "the hills are alive" from the sound of music.

Ahh.
spring is here.

#4) I know every word to every song in The Sound of Music, as well as most of the script.

If the house is a rockin', don't bother knockin'

After we left Kristen's in Clinton on Sunday, we headed on over to the Beverly Home, where my Mamaw lives, in Meridian for a big birthday celebration.

Yes, my friends, if a party is what you are looking for, look no further than the Beverly Home in Meridian. My whole family was there (my mother's side) minus kristen, Rob and little Henry. (tear)

(Melita - my mother - leading us in the Happy Birthday song. She is in the choir at FBC, so it was somewhat an intense version.)

Sophie couldn't come either. She had to be left at home. She is such a bad patient.
It was so great to see everyone.

Maybe we can have my 24th birthday at Beverly. I don't know. We will have to see if the cafeteria is available that day.

( i said make a funny face, this is what happened)

( me and my cousin, Adelia)

(me and my cousin, Tiffany)

(cousins Brooklee and Candace)

( I dressed like my 10 year old cousin. Go leggings)

(sweet little Amberlee)

(all the grandkids and great-grandkids with Mamaw. Trey took this picture. it's kinda rough)

i don't think he could be cuter if he tried

I love him.

My mom, dad, Laura and I got to stay with him this weekend. We got to see Kristen too! (didn't want to overlook that the mother of the child was also present)
I may be biased, but he is the most adorable little thing in the whole world.

I miss him.

(i love that little naked boy)

Life's a Beach

We had the best time at the beach.
I am back to reality (sigh) with lots to catch up on at work (double sigh) so I will let the pictures do most of the talking.
I will say that the weather was PERFECT, we ate a lot, slept late, and got massages (well, I did. Trey refused to go to the spa.)

PS - I am going to see little Henry this afternoon!!! I am sure he misses me so.

Animal ER

Sophie had to go to the animal emergency room last night. She pulled out every single one of her stiches, leaving her wound open.
she had to have it stapled.

She also has to wear one of those lamp shade collars.

I don't want to talk about it anymore.

(ps- seriously, Laura, that whole "joke" you pulled when you sent Trey that HIDEOUS gas station shirt...thanks for that. He has it on.)

WARNING: MAY BECOME ORANGE

Trey and I are going to the beach on sunday. WHO-HOO. I haven't been to the beach in so long! I mean, we went to Jamaica for our honeymoon, but Tropical Storm Alberto was there the whole week. Still a blast, but little sun did we see. So I am much looking forward to chillin out max and relaxing all cool. We are going to stay in Katie's parents condo. (hmmmm....I bet she doesn't know that) Her brother, Britt Rowell (mistakenly Britt Rowe in our wedding program. oops) invited us.

Anyway, I get distracted from the point of the story....the point is I am pale. In fact, I give a new meaning to the word in general.

Let me back up: I have always been pale. When I was younger it bothered me a lot. I would tell people that I didn't have any pigment and that is why I couldn't tan. looking back now I realize that probably sounded dumb. Sorry to all those elementary friends who heard that. what an idiot. But the best excuse ever was given to my BFF, Jordan. Now, Jordan is a cute little thing. Always tan, blond hair, little thing. Now me? BLACK hair and pale skin. So my thoughts? "You are smaller, Jordan. It takes less of the sun to cover you and make you tan."
(look how precious -and tan- jordan is)

It's true...I told her that. I was in the 5th grade.
How embarassing.

I have learn to accept the "natural" beauty of pale skin. Look at Nichole Kidman.

Anyway, I have become distracted yet again. In junior high I convinced my lovely mother, Melita, to allow me to go to the tanning bed. I did this throughout Jr. High, High School and college before big events (you know, prom, cheerleading try-outs, mud bowl...the big things in life) So for a short while growing up I had color to my skin.

now that I work 8-5 in an office, I have become a whole new shade of pale. I am more concious of the risks involved in the TB (I already see wrinkles, but don't worry...I use Olay Age Defense face wash) so I don't go much at all.

Well, I tomorrow I am getting a spray tan.

True fact.

I will let you know how that goes. I did this once when it first came to starkville. My hands were orange. I am hoping for an updated spray this time.

*The more I look back on this ridiculous post, I realize that my faithful 5 readers probably could care less about my skin color. But alas, you are more than likely still reading, in which case I should say thank you for caring.

Here are a few photos of my sad looking Sophie last night. Notice her scar on her belly. bless her heart.

Oh yeah...she lost a tooth this morning.
Our baby is growing up so fast.

March 7, 2007

a sigh of relief

Sophie is back home. I wanted to stay home with her this afternoon, but Trey was convinced my bosses wouldn't understand. WHY? Mothers get to stay home when their "real" kids are sick.

So many questions.

Thoughts that I must express, for Trey understands not.

1) While reading Amanda's sob story about her dreaded beauty salon expereince, I was reminded of my own horific eybrows.
Since the 8th grade I have been a loyal eybrow-waxer. I notice other people's brows, so I am convinced that others judge mine. Now, I do not just go to any eyebrow waxer. Her name is Pam and she is a miracle worker. I feel little pain as she rips my hair out using burning hot wax, she massages my eyebrows and eye lids with peppermint lotion after the waxing, and I leave the salon feeling (and looking, I should add) like a brand new person.
well, that was in starkville.
I have been waxed once since we have been married. ONCE.

Turn away, I am hideous.
I have called Pam in a panic on occasion, "Are you going to be in Starkville this weekend? I will be there at 8 tonight...i will come to your house if needed. I have a uni-brow."
It has become quiet the nightmare.

Trey does not understand this.

2) Yesterday Sophie had surgery. (she is still there, bless her heart). When I took her to the vet they asked if I would like to upgrade to the Laser Surgery. Less pain, less chance of infection, smaller insinsion. it was a no brainer. of course. I thought it was only natural to do this. Thanks, Trey, for supporting this executive decision. (seriously, he thought this was ok)
I told the vet to call me when she is out of surgery. I left him my cell number, Trey's, and my work number. I needed to know that it all went well. Well, at 6:00 last night, I had heard nothing. Thank goodness for the puppy passport...I quickly looked up his number and gave him a call. She was in the ICU incubator, but doing well. I thanked the man and hung up, only to call back to ask if it was ok for me to go sit by her.

Trey said no.

Trey does not understand this.

Thanks for listening.

March 6, 2007

Man, I feel like a woman.

Poor Sophie.
On Sunday, I told Sophie that she would be having surgery soon. She seemed upset. I explained that just because she is getting "fixed" does not mean that she is any less of a girl.

To prove it, I took her to the puppy spa for a day. She needed to relax and get pampered.
I took her in at noon and picked her up at 5:00 yesterday. She got a massage, bath, finger nails trimed, fluffed hair and a pretty bow. myspace layouts, myspace codes, glitter graphicsShe really felt great after the day at the spa....little did she know that today would be the day of her dreaded surgery.

I took her to the vet this morning at 11. She has to stay over night. When I was told this, I handed the vet my baby girl and quickly tried to cover my tears. No really... i felt like crying.
I called my mom to tell her the news that Sophie would have to stay overnight. She understood.
Thanks mom.
(Sophie didn't like the bow. Look how fluffy!)

Anyway, Sophie is in surgery as I type. They are calling me when she gets out to give me an update. I left her "Puppy Passport" with the vets.
Let me explain:
Sophie has a puppy passport. It has all of her information in it, including the dates and times of her shots, her weight at each apointment, emergency numbers, our numbers, etc...

I thought all dog owners had a puppy passport. Apparently not.

The first time we took her to the vet, the nurse laughed in my face when I simply said "Here is her passport. Could you please sign and date next to today's shot?"

I think it is brilliant.
Sophie also takes perscription vitamins daily.

Such is life.

An assortment of fascinating and mind-boggling information in one post.
I will start from the beggining:

1) The weekend:
Starkville was FABULOUS! We had the best time. Trey played golf with Daddy while my mama, nana, Laura, and I went to Dandy Doodlez...which I love. However, I was not completely satisfied with my final product. There, I said it. Afterwards, we went to TCBY.
ARE YOU AWARE THAT THERE IS NOT A TCBY IN HATTIESBURG?

Well, there is not. There is a dinky one in a gas station in Oak Grove (note to self: NEVER again drive 20 minutes for a skimpy shiver) but as far as Hattiesburg, I got nothing. I have tried, very unsuccesfully, to convince dear Trey that I should quit my job and open a franchise here. I will let you know how that works out.
Me and my cute Nana getting yogurt.
(On second thought, maybe I should hold out on that shiver...look at those cheeks!)

2) Sunday
Like I said in previous post, Amy rode with us to Starkville. Sophie was "asleap" at my feet on the floorboard in the car on the way home...or so it seemed. She had, without my knowledge, climbed under the seat and on top of sleeping Amy in the backseat. This is how Amy woke up from her nap:

Sorry, Amy. She can be somewhat of a brat at times. (she gets it from her daddy)

When we got back to the 'burg, we had the bright idea that we should spring clean. I threw away t-shirts for days. I thought I did this before we got married? I found shorts with "cheerleader" written on the butt from 1999. There was nothing about those that I should have kept. I threw all the shirts that I was either trashing or giving away on a pile in the guest room. Sophie found the pile and slept there for hours. At least one Skaggs had a good time cleaning.

MY NEXT BIT OF INFORMATION IS FAR TOO IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE ON THIS POST. I WILL BEGIN A NEW ONE IMMEDIATLY.

How The West Was Won

HAIL DEAR OLE STATE!

We are the SEC West Champs and Ole Miss is NOT!!

YES!

So excited.

March 2, 2007

music to my ears

I have a broad taste of music. I appreciate most music. You will, however, find little country.
ENJOY!

"If you were here in Starkville"

Do you like The Indigo Girls? Anyway, they sing a song called "Starkville". the title of this post is a line from that song. Starkville is pratically famous.

Anyway...I am going there today!!!! YIPPEEE!

Trey, Sophie and I are riding with my friend, Amy this afternoon. Can not wait.

Laura, I am coming your way!

Post Script: I realize that I have posted three posts in the past 10 minutes. It's Friday, kinda slow, and I have ADD when I am excited about something.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG IN HATTIESBURG!

Sophie, WHERE ARE YOU?

The other night Trey and I were sitting on the couch (trey with his guitar in hand, me filling out my Deal or No Deal application....details to come) when we hear Sophie crying.
It was a pathetic cry. A real pity cry for help.

"Sophie?", we call.

Nothing. Just more pleas for rescue.
Where was she?
Panic sets in.

Trey, being the calm man that he is, begins walking around the house.
We follow the sound of the cry.

And then, we found her...
She had climed into a bowl that I have sitting on a shelf thingie on our dining room table. She climbed in, but was scared to get down. Thank goodness her mama was there to snap a few pictures and rescue the poor child.
Being a parent of a toddler is tough...you really do have to keep your eyes constantly on them.

I wear my sunglasses at night...

This is what we do on Friday nights. We are modeling my way cool "I want to look famous" cheap sunglasses.
It was a complete impulse buy.
