As kermit the frog has said many times:
"It's not easy being green."

Amen, brother frog, amen.

In light of Murphwood's recent post, I decided to share my green secrets.

Readers: my husband is green.

That is so great, do not get me wrong. I for one love the trees and the air and would prefer for polar caps to remain frozen. I am willing to do my part to help 'save the earth', if you will.

Begin story here:

We are in the car market. I drive an '05 Camry. Love that car. 30 mpg in the city! Sounds great, huh? Apparently, not for mr. green skaggs. We have been test driving the hybrids. We think we are about to sign our name on the dotted line to own a Civic Hybrid. Cute little thing, and with 55 MPG I am bound to be a jet-setter.
We also recently stoped the purchasing of water bottles. We drink out of Nalgene's (or in my case a super cute red Starbucks water jug with a built in straw) with tap water only. And when possible, we buy recycled items.

However, there are certain things that I just can not give up. Washing my sheets, for one.
As my mother says, "when my day comes and I have a laundry fairy, I will have fresh sheets on my bed every night."
Preach it, sista. Nothing statisfies the soul like clean sheets with a fresh scent, lavender perhaps.

Since the dawning of The Skaggs' Green Life, Trey has mentioned that we wash our sheets too much. I'm sorry, what? Is it possible that you can be too clean? More than 4 days with the same sheets and I start to twitch. call me cumpulsive, that is fine, but this woman knows what this woman wants.

Trey, if you are out there reading, this is me standing up for clean sheets everywhere...I WILL CONTINUE TO WASH THEM ONCE A WEEK.

Thank you...
I think the newly re-discovered love for all things green came Sat. night when Trey, my friend Kate from Dallas, and I were out eating Mexican and watching the Live Earth concert where musicians and celebs alike came out of the woodworks (somewhat quite literally) to tell the world it is up to us to stop global warming. Good music.

It was all fine and dandy until Dave Matthews appeared with news that their newest child (August or December, can't remember. some month for a name) wears only cloth diapers.
If you know my husband (or me, for that matter) you might know that back in the day we shared a love for this man. I, for one, thought he was 'the one' and I would surely break up his marriage if he would just lay eyes on me at one of the many concerts I attended. It never happened; but i like my husband a lot, so I digress...

Anyway, so now he (the hubby) thinks when we bring life into this world (a greener and cleaner one, I hope) that we should only use cloth diapers on them.
I see poo-poo stains on my couch in the future.

I am sorry, but does he know what kind of mess these babies make these days? I mean, poo-poo in colors that you have never even seen!

By all means let us clothe his/her little booty and when he/she makes a poo-poo we will wash it in the sink with organic soap, air dry it and then slap it back on the innocent child. I THINK NOT.

I just don't think I can be that green.

Sherryl Crow, if you are reading this, my apologies.

I also can not use just one sqaure of toilet paper, much to your dismay.

I really am sorry.

I will never stop shaving my legs, wearing Bobbi Brown make-up, washing my sheets weekly, nor will allow myself to be less than clean by only using one square.

But, for what it is worth, I do think you are cute, Sherryl.

What a funny, funny blog. Heather you write some great stuff. The see-through dress was hilarious -- maybe you better trash that thing.

I agree Sherryl Crow is kinda cute, but she does have snakes in her head.

heather,

you are so brave. clean sheets everywhere celebrate you!!!

and i for one, certainly stand with you on the cloth diaper issue. i would venture to say that trey would change his stance too if forced to change the dirty diaper and wash them himself. preach on heather.

He will change his mind on the diaper issue...don't you worry.

Maybe Trey should meet up with Al Gore and they could talk global warming. You should give him Al's book for Christmas. How much clean air do you think all those Live Earth musicians destroyed flying their private jets and driving their huge tour buses?

Believe it or not, my mom tried cloth diapers with me when I was a baby. Shocking, yes, but true. Needless to say, she changed her ways.

I'm not even going to tell you how often Kell and I wash sheets.

a-i like clean sheets, too. i'm also praying for a laundry fairy.:)

b-one square? does she ever go #2??!

c-trey has lost his mind if he thinks he's using cloth diapers. tell him you'll use them under the stipulation that HE will clean them. thank you very much.

4-crack, LT? possibly other things, too.:)

i love heather skaggs.

Poor Trey! Mary Straton is correct. She wore cloth diapers for about 1 week.....nightmare! Please tell me that Trey would want the cloth diapers washed with the sheets!
Cheryl Crow is overrated.

Will and I fight constantly about the clean sheets issue. I am adimant that the sheets get washed at least once every five to six days. He thinks I have lost my mind. However, I do believe that his issue is related to the fact that he hates putting the things back on the bed (he can't ever get it right.) Men.

heath,
I certainly hope you were not offended by my lame attempt at humor in my anti-green post. I think hybrids are really cool, and so is the environment.

Wash on, sister.

Still friends?

You know, my brother was allergic to store-bought diapers. My mom still counts it as one of first true travesties of parenthood. I, the good child, however, was allergic to cloth ones. Keep your fingers crossed for an angel like me :)
