confession

I have a confession. one that makes me kinda feel like a 16 year old.

on a whim, i bought the book Twilight. Never seen the movie, never read any of the books, but I had just finished a great book and was wanting another.  Went to wal-mart with Trey the other night to find one.  I know, Wal-mart is not known for it's book selection, but it is closer to our house than any book store.

Apparently wal-mart in south h'burg is remodeling and the books were few and far between. But there were like a billion twilights. and the paperbacks were only $8.88 (so random).  So I bought it.  I figured there had to be something good about it if so many people were obsessed.  And I am fo'sho not too good for a youth 'fantasy' series, having read all the Harry potter books.

Well, score one for me. It's just fabulous.  I can't put it down. its a weird thing that I just can't explain, but i get up earlier for work to just 'read a little more' and stay up way too late reading about this vampire love.  I feel so silly.

I started two nights ago and am almost finished.  Work gets in the way, of course, of finding out the next adventure of Bella and Edward.  I considered calling in sick today to finish it, but my conscience got the best of me.

I feel better now that I have told you.  Trey made fun of me when he read on the back cover that it received raving reviews from Teen People.  So be it.  But thank goodness he "will never say no to a book." Right, LT?

Speaking of Trey, he started his Bachelor Party Marathon 2K9 this weekend.  Thursday night, he and about 15 other gentlemen loaded up and headed out to Destin for a long weekend of fun and sun as they celebrate Seth and Maggie's upcoming wedded bliss.

He just sent me a text that said "at the beach. water is pretty".  I didn't respond.

(Seth, groom #1 and already in the party mode, with blushing bride-to-be, Maggie)

Next weekend he is heading up north (north mississippi, that is) for some more last fling before the ring shenanigans.  At my 'last fling before the ring' I wore a pink veil and a light up fake 10 karat diamond ring.  I offered to buy some goodies for this party, but they said beer and fishing will suffice.  Glad I wasn't invited, although I should have been.  I am, afterall, a grooms(wo)man in this said wedding.  But I was told this party was for men only.  Probably better that way. My feelings are not hurt.  I get to wear a pretty dress being the grooms(wo)man, so I am happy.

(Russ, bachelor party star #2, with star groomswoman, yours trully)

So while he is living it up on the white sandy beaches of florida, I am heading to Starkville.  Put your party pants on - the three sisters are getting together tonight!

Softball update: We lost game #2 (to outback steakhouse, no less) by 13 points.  Better than our 25 point loss the first game. But, alas, game #3!  Last night, at #3, we were winning! Ahead! We were tied 6-6 for 2 innings.  We went into 3 extra innings, only to have the opponent win by one.  I am no longer the second baseman, by the way.  Instead, I keep the stats and am the extra hitter. I had an RBI last night. Go me.

worth a shot

I never win much.  Once I won a coloring contest. My prize was a gift card to the dollar store, in which I bought a gum ball machine.  Do you remember that, Mama? I was about 5 or 6. I have a memory of an elephant.

Anyway, I am convinced I am going to win something with all of these giveaways.

Check this one out...so cute.

Welcome to the world, baby Maggie

My dear friend, Ashley, had her second little girl on the 26th.  Sweet Maggie Ruth. I can't wait to meet her and give her some kisses.
Congrats, John, Ashley, big sister Ivy Kate, and of course Wilson the dog.

What a beautiful baby to add to a beautiful family! Congratulations!
(Yes, Ashley looked that good after giving birth. My mother/ friends are setting very high standards with their good post-baby looks and famous-looking, sweet kids.  Geesh.)

City league softball: not for softies.

Well, as fate would have it, we are much better designers than we are softball players.

We arrived at the field thirty minutes prior to game time, as directed by our "coach". trey and I immediately notice this was no joke and the people on the field were no laughing matter. And I am pretty sure I am the only girl who put on lip gloss before walking into the park.

We are told we are playing "the hustlers", playing their first game of a double header series on field 3. So we go watch a few minutes of their game to size up our competition.

Perhaps a visual is better:

Our team:

Their team:

Trey and I thought briefly about faking an emergency and going home before the game even started. Instead, I decided to give it a shot and just pray the ball does not come my way.

We batted first. And scored 3 points! I am not sure why I thought being a diamond girl at Mississippi State would help my batting skills, but I honestly thought I would do ok, at least getting an RBI. False. I hit a fly ball that was easily caught, causing the third out. So be it. We were off to play some defense.

For whatever reason, I was designated the 2nd base(wo)man. I would have served the team far better as the bat girl, but none-the-less I had a job to do. I went to my spot and prayed the ball would not come near me. But it did.

As it turns, The Hustlers were quite the batters. They score 23 points.

Not in the game. IN THE INNING.

True story.

When we were down by eight, I turned to the ump next to me and asked about the ten run rule. As luck would have it, there is no such rule in this league.
We play by time only: 7 innings or 55 minutes.

Obviously 55 minutes came far before 7 innings. We only played 3 innings before time was up.

I am not sure what the final score was, but I am fairly certain they never slacked up on us. We did score 2 more points in the final inning (again, not contributed by yours truly).

So that's it. We lost. Here's hoping Tuesday's game is not a repeat.

It's time I tell you all something...

I am on a softball team.

What? You thought it was something more important? This is pretty dang important, if you ask me.  I haven't played softball since I was about 8 years old when I was far more interested in matching my bows and uniforms and doing cheers in the dugouts.

I doubt there will be much of that going on.  I have been signed up for city league softball. Hattiesburg city league.  What kind of people play Hattiesburg city league co-ed softball, you ask? I don't know, but I am willing to bet it will not be a bunch of girls in matching hair bows.

My work signed up for a team.  It's game day, so naturally we all wore our uniforms.  the poor intern on the right had only been here a week when she was suckered into playing.

Our first game is tonight.  8:30.  If you are in the Hattiesburg area and looking for free comedy entertainment, you can always come to the ball fields.  I will be the one avoiding all contact with the balls.
RARE Design team members this morning in game day attire.(Yes, you will see that I added heels to the mix.  I couldn't wear sneakers to work!! I also have on big earrings, but my hair is covering that up. )

high maintenance

no one can say we don't love our pup.  she is like a child to me.  I do realize if I had a human child, I would soon realize that sophie is, in fact, a canine, but right now she is as much human to me as, well, trey.

We have noticed lately that she has been having trouble breathing...weezing, snorting, etc.  She has had allergies (and thus expensive allergy shots) and we credited the increase breathing problems to increase pollen.

last night, however, she could not sleep (and thus neither could we).  She has always had a hard time catching her breath when she is really excited, but last night she couldn't catch her breath from just laying there.  mother's intuition: i knew she must see a doctor.  It was pitiful.

So off to the vet we went this morning.  They couldn't hear a clear heart beat, had fever and she had very rapid breathing. Panic, of course.

Well, they just called and little miss has terrible asthma, with fluid built up in her lungs.  On top of that, they did an overall check up to discover she also has gingivitis.  Bless her.

We take her to for check ups all the time, she even takes vitamins for crying out loud.  I feel so bad for her.  Now she will be on antibiotics to clear the lungs and be on asthma treatment, on top of allergy shots.

Poor sophie.  She will gladly accept get well gifts, if interested.

Golf Tournament for Adam

I love those times in life when you get a glimpse of just how generous and kind people are.  Yesterday was a golf tournament benefitting my precious brother-in-law.  He has so many people that love him and a group of his friends got together and planned a tournament benefitting him.  It was a huge success and so many people came out in support.  Thanks to all for making it happen and for everyone that traveled to play in the tournament!  We are all so appreciative.  Adam is doing great, by the way!  Chemo made him sick for a little while, but he was well enough to play (and do well!) in the tournament yesterday! Praise God!

Here are a few pictures:

They made t-shirts and everything!
