For the past week or so, Jones has been waking up every three hours during the night. So unlike him. Checked for teething, check for earaches, let him try to cry it out, everything. But I knew what it was: big boy was hungry. He was acting like he was starving when I would finally go in there to check on him. I would end up nursing and he would go back to sleep immediately.
I talked to his doc and she said he is probably ready for more than just breast milk. I mean, he is a 20 pounder. Big boy gotta eat. I was trying to wait until 6 months to talk to her in person about feeding him. I am really nervous about it. (note: I am crazy) Guess I will be making baby food this week!
I mean, nursing is simple. He stops when he is full. I don't have to prepare anything or mess anything up. Fool proof. And I love it.
Anyway, I had several people (including my mom, who is all-knowing) suggest I put a little rice cereal in his last bottle of the day. So I have been doing that the past two nights.
Can I just throw in right here that I hate pumping? Is this too personal for a blog? Oh well. I hate it. Hate it.
But I have been doing it for the sake of a good night's rest. And it has worked beautifully.
Tonight, however, I messed it up. The cereal came out entirely too fast, resulting in cereal with milk, not the other way around. The bottle was a no-go. And I refused to pump again. So I feed him with a spoon.
I know you can't tell from this picture, but he L-O-V-Ed it. He looked at me as if I had been holding out on him for 6 months.
After he went to sleep, I went for a jog. During said jog I thought about the fact that I used a spoon and bowl to feed my baby. And I cried. (See note above.)
How can he already be this old?
Stop flying, time.

I have a 16 month old, so I've been there before. I nursed until a little after a year (I cut out all feedings gradually and the last to go was night time), and also waited to introduce foods until about 10 days before his 6-month birthday. I also HATED pumping and only kept a minimal supply on hand until about 6 months. Mine disliked rice cereal and oatmeal, so after about a week of trying that we moved to sweet potatoes. It took him 2-3 weeks before he liked food. I made all his food except the sweet peas and green beans (I actually tried making green beans and they were awful!). My son didn't weigh 20lbs until 1 year though so he may not have been as hungry as yours might be.
What a precious picture!
I hope Jones continues to do well with food - and that you start getting more rest!
Love that pic of him. He has the most gorgeous eyes! I need to see him again!
Hope this week goes better. Waking up in the middle of the night is for the birds!
It'll be ok sister friend. Just enjoy each milestone and 'new' thing since it's all new with the first one.
Call me if you need us :)
Blessings, ejw
Totally agree with you about pumping! It always makes me feel like a dairy cow that's being pumped! :) That's why I just nurse until they turn 1 then give them whole milk in a sippy cup. I introduced my girls to sippy cups at around 5-6 months with water so that by the time they're 1, they'll be pros and we won't have to wean off a bottle either! You are doing a fabulous job and I love watching you mommy through the blog! Jones is adorable and has gorgeous eyes!
PRESH PICTURE!!!! LOVE IT!
Heather, I love that picture!! He is so adorable, and those eyes are just beautiful. I know you don't enjoy pumping...I guess I don't mind it as much because I pumped for 5 months with Austin. Kind of got used to it, I guess! But, if you haven't already (please ignore me if you have), you need to invest in one of these:

I promise, it will be well worth it. It makes the process much easier, and it was the single best thing I bought when I was pumping for Austin. FYI, they run a little big, so be sure to check the sizing out if you plan to order one.
Enjoy...they grow up so quickly!
Is it weird that I want to frame that picture to have in my house? Because I do. He is beyond precious.
