OK. So we don't really know.
But Trey's aunt is convinced she has the answer. She has been wanting to do the "string test" on my belly since the day we told them we were pregnant. Have you ever heard of this? Not me. Until now.
We finally caught up with each other on Saturday afternoon. She claims to have never been wrong with this prediction. Even when her coworker was told she was having a boy by the ultrasound tech., the string test said girl...and guess who was right? Aunt Darlene.
So I am thinking about painting the nursery now and not having my ultrasound to determine the sex.
Just kidding. Sorry, Aunt Darlene. As much as I trust you and that string, I am getting a second opinion before I break out the paint color.
Here are some pictures Trey took on my phone. (hence the bad quality)
My face is cracking me up in the first pic. And excuse the fact that I look like I have been hit by a truck. I was tired. Thanks, Aunt Darlene - it was fun!!!
According to the string test, Baby Skaggs is a SHE!
We will find out in a couple of weeks if Aunt Darlene is right!
In the meantime, what do you think "it" is?
Here are some other wives tale symptoms I am having:
• I am breaking out. I NEVER broke out before pregnancy.
• I am tempted most nights to eat skittles for dinner. (use to be plain potatoes / weeks 8-10)
• I can't get enough milk, water or OJ
• I have not been sick at all. Not once. Praise God!
That's all I can think of. So, what's the verdict?
And I just have to share this picture. It is hilarious to me for several reasons:
1) I am holding up "41" instead of "14". We fixed that on take 2.
2) My face. Maybe I wasn't ready?
3) The quality. The hardest part of my pregnancy has been getting weekly pictures taken by Trey for my Belly Book. He is not winning any photography awards anytime soon. In his defense, this was taken on my camera phone.
4) But my FAVORITE reason for this picture is that you can finally see a bump! All the other pictures we took (when I was smiling, head not cut off and holding up the correct number) you couldn't tell I had a bump.
I am still feeling more fat than pregnant, but hopefully I will get out of that soon. I am ready for the bump to look more baby than beer.
So here is my very beautiful 14 week picture. HA!

1. of COURSE it's a girl. i'm interested to find about a little more about aunt darlene's "method".
you should put a poll on the side of your blog to see what everyone thinks you're having.
2. you have a "belly?" PLEASE. ok, so i know that your tummy is normally flat as a board so i really CAN tell that there's a change. sadly, my normal tummy is bigger than that. ugh.
3. i get to see you this weekend! and i probably will want to touch the belly. perhaps even take pics of it!
love you!
oh yeah and the whole "41" thing makes me laugh.
Yay for Aunt Darlene! You should bring her when we meet for lunch next month, I want to meet her.
I also had someone do the string test, and it said BOY. The lady who did it said it was never wrong.
Of course I was also never sick- drank milk all the time, and craved slushies. So who knows?
I still vote GIRL. You look precious. And skinny.
Heather, it's actually the "quarter test"...and I learned it from an older Cajun woman in Morgan City...she claimed it had never been wrong and it hasn't been wrong for me - every time I've done it for somebody, it has been right...does that make it voodoo? I don't think so, but it's fun nevertheless. When it says wrong (as it almost did with my co-worker), I'll quit doing it.
for sure not voodoo! I asked my mom and she has heard about it as well. We will see!!! I have it on record that you called it! Thanks for doing the test - we had fun!!
I think its a girl too. I actually told Adam that just last week. Miss you.
i think girl. and like your sister, i will say you have a "bump" just because for you i guess it is, but i would kill to look like you at 14 weeks, just everyday! ;-)
I'm also thinking it's a girl.
Aunt Darlene has called it: GIRL. I believe the String and will go ahead and purchase tutus and bikinis.
I am going to go with Aunt Darlene on this one. I think it's a girl too. I LOVE the bump it's too cute! You look WONDERFUL and it's wonderful you haven't been sick AT ALL!!!! WOW!!!! Love and miss you!
A GIRL!
I'm going with boy! ;) You look great!!
Girl-Duh!
And at 41 weeks, you look awesome!
love~
I am going with girl too! And I think you need to do the gender prediction test just for fun! :)
Jenny Ruth beat me to it but I was gonna vote boy just because I was tired of everyone else voting girl!
Plus... You sound like me when I was pregnant with Smith!
So glad you're getting your healthy beverages in! I can't even imagine drinking OJ or milk! The water I can handle ENOUGH but the diet cokes are what keep me ticking! (And yes I know it is not the best beverage for the baby...the d.o.c. and I have discussed this. A. Lot.)
Hey Heather, A co-worker of mind did the string test too and it said boy...and I am having a boy! All of the other wives tale theories said I was having a girl - don't believe them!!! The string test seems to be accurate. You will find out soon enough! You look great. I love the week 41 picture... :)
Awe how fun! hmm I guess girl?
I broke out terrible the first half or more of my pregnancy. And I could put down some milk! I would get up in the middle of the night craving a big glass of milk. and I had a boy. but never craved skittles, I wanted spicy food, bbq, and ramen noodles? I have never been a fan of ramen noodles so I have no idea where that came from.
YAYYYYYY!!!!
Girl for sure - because baby kate cantrell needs a bff and a roomie at Ole Miss errrr.... State at the KD house!
The sting test was totally wrong for me and my sister. Only differences with the pregnancies were that I had morning sickness and she hasn't, but we both ended up with boys! And my Mom was NEVER sick during her pregnancies and she had 2 girls.
I'm guessing a boy, just to be different!
I'm def. going with girl!! Love you cant wait to find out!!
Yup..Its a girl..I know this!!
so, i am SO behind on my blog reading and just saw this post and i am SO SO SO excited for you and trey! you will be the BEST mommy!!
