Ladies and gentlemen: the day has arrived. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has hit the big screen as of midnight last night.
Don't think for one minute that my husband did not try his hardest to get me to go to the movies last night. When I forcefully turned him down a number of times ("i need my sleep" - heather) he inisisted that it would be fun for us to just "drive by the theatre and look at the people waiting to go see it". FUN? REALLY? no. absolutely not. I will be just fine avoiding all things resembling grown adult men and women dressed in capes with lightening bolts painted on their foreheads.
This sounds like I do not like Harry Potter as much as the next person. That is entirely false. I love both the books and the movies, but my husband's love for this Hogwart-bound wizard exceds beyond even my love for a good appletini and new shoes. Yes, my husband loves Mr. Potter and all his tales. He re-read books 1-5 just to be 'mentally prepared' for the 5th movie.
Not me. I read them all, but am content knowing that I will follow along just fine without re-reading all 6,000+ pages of wizardry.
back to the movie: After I turned my husband down for a midnight movie in the middle of the week (he knew not to even ask if I would dress in costume) he resorted to asking his boss. Yep. You heard right. He has convinced his boss, a fellow Potter-lover, to allow the office to attend the matinee showing of Harry Potter today. REALLY???
So this morning, while getting ready for work, Trey walks out of the bedroom with a t-shirt on that says HAGRID across the back. (thanks for that, Russell) Hagrid, for all you non-potter fans out there, is a character in the book. I imediately told him that he was not allowed to wear his HAGRID t-shirt to work. It was not up for discussion, it must be removed.
He wore it as an undershirt.
So now when he, his boss, and their two grad assistants take off work for 4 hours to go "develop themselves" by watching HP #5, he is going to remove his Polo and reveal that he, too, is one of those people in potter attire.
They are also drawing lightening bolts on their foreheads.
geez.

I am a little disturbed that you like appletinis.
I don't even really know what to say about Trey right now.
wow. wow. wow.
hmmmm... I can see the t-shirt but the lightning bolt?
I'm re-reading the 5th book before I take the boys on the 20th. I, too have to be prepared. Scary, I know.
T~
have you ever tried a caramel appletini? they are AMAZING! travis is unfortunately not a potter fan...i know, but Hagrid, huh...i can see the resemblance. just kidding, but let me say that the burg is the place to be on an opening night. Lindz and I took in opening night of Lord of the Rings 3 there and it was a sight to behold. I can't remember if i knew Trey then, so there is a good chance he was there in hobbit attire.
i wouldn't go to that movie if someone PAID me.
we are showing the new HP movie in our IMAX dome theater. we had a promotional screening last night at 8pm and then the midnight screening. all of our shows are sold out through sunday. we are also having a book release party on the 20th. my phone has been ringing OFF THE HOOK with people wanting to make reservations or ask questions about the movie or the book. if i never hear the name harry potter again i will be a happy camper. i'm a potter fan but this potter mania is INSANE!
oh mary staratton! don't be a appletini hater! i LOOOOOVE appletini's too !!!!!!
yay for a good girly drink!
have to say that i like, not love, harry potter and have NEVER read a book - just seen the movies... not all of them though.
im not a big fan of trilogies... i don't like star wars or lord of the rings... or pirates of the caribbean... does this make me non-american?
Heath,
I'd really like to get that blueberry goop recipe. It looked delicious.
Also, my little sister watched all of the HP movies on Tuesday (again) in order to prepare for the midnight screening that night. However, I don't think she went in lightening bolt attire. Still, I think she and Trey would be great friends.
