For instance, I can see a whole room at places like Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware and want to order everything I see - furniture, paint on the walls, window treatments, rugs, accessories, everything. Sadly, my wallet does not allow me to pre-order such rooms. That led me to buying a "set" of furniture when we were first married. It was just easy. No thinking was required. "What? This couch comes with those side tables and coffee table AND chair and a half? Sold." Now, I find it boring. No interest at all. I am getting rid of it (slowly) piece by piece.
This blog has a point, I promise.
And here it is: I need help.
Can all of you readers out there provide me with some info? Know of great places (online or store) where I can find great one-of-a-kind (but practical), stylish, fabulous furniture and home decor? And if it won't break the bank, that is even better.
Specifically right now I am looking for some sort of TV stand or media center, coffee table, chair for living room, window treatments (don't ask me to sew. I wish I could), and a small eating table and chairs (probably one that just sits two. We have a larger one already). I love throw pillows, artwork, and "sit-arounds", as my Nana calls them. I envy well decorated homes. Mine just isn't.
I think I just need a decorator. I am no good at this. But those who are, please, share the knowledge. I will be eternally grateful. And so will my walls. Thank you.

Hey you!
Decorating was my favorite part about moving into a new apartment.
My tip: Look through magazines (I suggest Southern Living) and earmark those that you like.
Then thrift. All of my furniture was secondhand and or handed down. And I redid everything. My boring brown laminate table now looks like an antiqued white-wash beauty!
If you can buy new, buy pieces that have personality and differ. Mix and match to fit your own style. Something you have plenty of!
Let us know how it goes!
I.O. Metro in Jackson is pretty cool and not too expensive (at least the last time I went there). Some of the pieces are a bit modern but it's still pretty cute stuff!
if you get back to starkville, stewart's has "estate" furniture...which i think is really furniture they have refinished themselves...but i have a couple of their pieces...and acquired them at a very reasonable price....they are colorful and add a little bit of personality to simpler pieces..
you should hire either MSKS or emily stringer.
or just come to MINT.
oh I wish I could help. I'm horrible with decorating! you should post pics with the final results!
Heather, if you are making a trip to Atlanta any time soon, you should go to IKEA. They have GREAT furniture at VERY reasonable prices. You will be shocked at the prices, actually, and they are very stylish pieces as well. The store is overwhelming, though, so go with an idea of exactly what you want!
Also, my other suggestion is the same as Samantha's above. You need to go to thrift/consignment stores and antique stores. You never know what you might find at a reasonable price. The problem is you have to go fairly regularly to get the good pieces :)
Good luck! I love this kind of stuff. I would do it for a living if I could!
Oh, and you should really look at Wal Mart & Lowe's/Home Depot for window treatments. Sometimes they have really good curtains for fairly inexpensive prices. Nobody has to know where they came from unless you tell them!
Talk to your mother-in-law. She's absolutely the best, most talented decorator I've ever seen. And can make the worst piece of junk look good. She's great at creating flower arrangements, too. I truly envy her creativity.
If you want any silk or burlap drapes, and are in the Jackson area, let me know! I can order them for better prices than Ray's or Ross.
Also, Premier Fabrics in Jackson has great chairs int the 200 price range - you pick the stlye and any of their fabrics. They are super cute!
i totally recommend hiring a decorator when you're ready. it's some of the best $ you'll spend, and they can take what you already have and re-arrange and make it look like a real home.
Premier Fabrics is great, and Target has good window treatments, too. i also LOVE LOVE LOVE TJ Maxx and Tuesday Morning for home stuff. Michael's has great mirrors for cheap, and Hobby Lobby has a little of everything.
This is so me girl!
ps - just got your comment about the Favre - seriously - there is NOT an "F" on the front gate is there?!!?!?! wow!
have a great weekend :)
